Backcountry Ascender is a free, fun and simple backcountry & avalanche educator.

LEARN with this engaging and competitive application made of an industry and peer approved curriculum of self-directed lessons and required in-person courses.

COMPETE by earning points for completing sorties (self-directed lessons) and courses. The points you earn will raise your rank, as well as that of your club, state association, dealer, and snowmobile brand. Sorties combine to make missions. Once you complete a mission level, you will be admitted to a higher badge rank. Don't be out done.

WIN by being admitted to higher badge ranks, and by finding coupon codes that are unlocked by completing mission levels. Coupon codes are used for discounts at top industry brands.

IMPROVE your backcountry knowledge, skills, practical experience and confidence that could save you or your riding partner's life someday.

What's at Stake!

As an individual, you earn a new badge with each new mission level completed. You can also earn big prizes for being the first to achieve a mission level.

Contribute your points to support your organization of choice. Each season we will recognize the organization whos members amass the most points:

      • Top Reviewer of the Season
      • Top Brand of the Season
      • Top Dealer of the Season

How it Works!

Work through missions that contain sorties. A sortie is a short lesson that requires evidence to complete. An industry leader or senior peer will review and approve the sortie, granting you points. Once you complete all the sorties in the mission, you are awarded a badge for that mission level. There are 5 mission levels this season.

  • ‘Sign Up’ with your Facebook account, Google account or Office 365 account
  • Start with Mission One, Sortie One and work your way through the mission
  • Each Sortie will take you 10min or less to complete
  • Submit evidence as required to complete the sortie
  • Your evidence will be reviewed and approved by one of our peer reviewers
  • Once a mission is complete, you will be issued your mission level badge

    Complete all the sorties in a mission and you will earn your backcountry badge for that mission. Share it, post it, and be proud of it. It shows that when it comes the backcountry, you know how to get you and your team back out!
